Magnet Theme Program
Florence High School will be accepting applications for the 2007-2008 school year in the Career and Technology magnet theme program. This program will enable students to attend Florence High School who do not live in the F.I.S.D. school district by enrolling in Florence High School's CATE courses.
Enrollment Guidelines:

Open to student in 9-12 grade.

Students participating in the program become full-time FHS students.

Students must enroll and remain enrolled in CATE courses while at FHS (i.e. Ag-Science, Consumer-Science, and Buisness/Computer-Science)

Students will be required to pay tuition of $300 and must provide their own transportation.

Students are required to sign a contract and must follow all student code of conduct rules. Failure to follow these rules will result in expulsion from the program in whice the student must return to their "home" school.

This enables students to become part of F.H.S's long-standing tradition of excellence in agricultural education.
What are the Benefits?
Career and Technology Education at Florence High School is unique in the fact that it enables its students to specialize in certain fields, obtain career certifications and licenses, and recieve articulated credit with Central Texas College and Austin Community College. With these advantages, students have the ability to achieve at higher levels both while in high school and after graduation.
Specializations
By following a specific sequence of courses, students can recieve a specialization in several areas that include Animal and Food Industry, Food and Meats Processing, Horticulture Science, Agricultural Mechanization, Agricultural Buisness and Communications. The students that complete this program graduate with an honors sash that designates their fields of choice.
Certifications
While also recieving a specialization, students have the option of recieving a career certification. These certifications give students the ability to enter the workforce above entry-level and earn a living either full-time or while attending college. The certifications that are offered at FHS are Value-Added Food Processing, Microsoft Ofiice Specialist (MOS), and Hunter and Boater Education.
Licensing
If specializing in Animal and Food industry, Food and Meats Processing, or Horticulture Science, students have the opportunity to become licensed in their field. Thise licenses include ServSafe® Food Handler license, and a Chemical Applicator license through the Texas Extension Agency.
Articulated Credit
Aritculated Credit is offered to those who are enrolled in Agricultural Mechanics I (MIG and TIG welding), Agricutural Power Units, Meat Lab I & II, Food Science, Business Computer Information Systems I & II, Accounting I, Business Imaging and Multimedia Managment, Business Managment, and Business Ownership. By taking these classes they also will recieve college credit hours at either Central Texas College or Austin Community College. This provides students with a head start on higher education.
What are the Requirments?
The magnet program is open to students in grades 9-12 that have a sincere desire to become a memeber of the Florence High School Career and Technology Education program. Students that meet the requirements will become full time students at Florence High School and must be enrolled and remain enrolled in Career and Technology courses. Students are required to pay a yearly tuition of $300, provide thier own transportaion, and sign a contract that states that they will abide by the F.I.S.D. student code of conduct. Failure to follow the rules outlined in the contract will result in dismissal from the program, and the student must return to their "home" school.
